Spring time mini sessions

With the warm weather teasing us I just wanted to throw it back with last years mommy and me mini session. It took place at Water Works Park in Des Moines, Iowa when the crab apple trees were in full bloom with pink and white flowers. I'm also just excited about my upcoming spring minis that will also take place during peak bloom!

I am writing this blog to show everyone my images but to also give some tips about mini sessions if you are lucky enough to snag a spot with me or another photographer. These tips range from posing and prompts to what colors and outfits would work best during your session.

Poses and prompts are supposed to be fun and candid, but the static poses are still a must! I like to start with the static ones so I have those still images families and parents like to have framed around their house. However, once I get those out of the way the craziness begins. Don't worry I tend to make myself look like a fool so you feel more comfortable playing pretend ring around the rosie or faking a laugh till you actually can't stop laughing at yourself. This is when I capture those cute intimate and big smiles during your session.

Outfits are always a tough one to figure out. You wanna feel confident but also pick out something that works for a group but also won't clash with the surrounding landscape. I like to send people a Pinterest board that can be a starting guide to getting outfits together and make sure to try everything on down to the shoes before your session, I am here to make you feel confident in front of the camera but I know clothing can play a big part. In the spring lots of solid pastel colors are hot and the big trend for families is everyone wearing something different but it still works together.

I hope some of these tips and tricks help and get you excited about spring!
